Performers 2007

Catriona Sturton (Toronto, ON)
Saturday, Sept. 22 – End Hits

Catriona Sturton has had to try hard to avoid sleepwalking while traveling across Canada. Whether spending the night in a van parked in a ghost town or napping on the sofa of millionaires, Catriona has acted out her wild dreams of playing blues and rock and roll from sea to sea. She has toured the country with Halifax indie-rockers, Plumtree, and Japan's, The Secret. Inspired by blues legends, Sturton is always an entertainer and can be found walking the bar, when not walking around the neighborhood in her pajamas. A full-length album will be recorded in the fall. Expect: harmonica, blues, rock, and shimmying

Doll (Ottawa, ON)
Saturday, Sept. 22 – End Hits

Spearheading the new wave of Grunge music, Doll, a four-piece based out of Ottawa, provides the spark necessary to re-ignite the grunge movement. Fronted by the multi-talented vocal duo of Christina (vox, guitars) and Veronique (vox, bass), the band is known for its’ chunky riffing and incredibly catchy melodies. Definitely not for the faint of heart; Doll will take you on the ride of your life!

Hollowtip Hearts (Ottawa, ON)
Thursday, Sept 20 - Mavericks

Hollowtip Hearts hail from the depths of Ottawa, emerging triumphantly from the basements of Lowertown to take on the rock establishment. Or at least have fun trying. In a mash-up of diverse influences like Mates of State, the Cars, and The Shangri’La’s, these four feisty ladies will make you wanna shake what yo’ mama gave you! Brought together in a firestorm of fate, serendipity and luck, they are: Maya ‘Krystal Diamond’ M.: Bass/Vocals; Christina ‘StinaB’ B.: Guitar/Vocals; Jackie ‘Bam Bam’ W.: Drums; and K ‘Kitty No’ K.: Keyboard/Vocals.

Katie Stelmanis (Toronto, ON)
Thursday, Sept 20 - Mavericks

Katie Stelmanis: Armed with a keyboard and backed by a wall of pre-assembled midi madness, Katie Stelmanis' music features strong and scattered beats riding alongside dense synth melodies and vibrato-laden vocal swoops. Possessing one mean set of vocal chords, her unique tone falls somewhere between opera-house class and punk rock crass. Stelmanis will perform with Maya Postepski, an exceptionally talented percussionist who despite her youth has toured internationally with pop musicians and classical orchestras. Together they have played with Daniel Johnson, Josephine Foster, Partyline (x-bratmobile's Alison Wolfe), and Final Fantasy, to name a few. A full length will be released in the fall.

Kickers (Montreal, PQ)
Thursday, Sept 20 - Mavericks

Kickers have been a band for more than three years with a 2005 EP out on Alden Penner's label Take this Hammer and a new LP recorded by Jace Lasek (Besnard lakes, Unicorns, Wolf parade) and produced by Alden Penner to be released this fall. Kickers sound like a field of clovers in the sunshine on a hot June day. Imagine the Black Keys as 2 young ladies with a better drummer, more sugar, and less blues.

DJ L'Oqenz (Toronto, ON)
Friday, Sept. 21 – Mavericks

Her passion for music and undeniable skills on the turntables have made her a sought after commodity at home in Toronto and abroad. Spinning everything from hip hop to house, L’oqenz has the ability to fuse musical styles and genres easily and effortlessly. Committed to bettering her community, L’oqenz has set aside time to teach and fundraise for inner city youth in Toronto. Masia One (Toronto, ON)
Friday, Sept. 21 – Mavericks

It all began when this young Singaporean girl got her hands on, none other than, a bootleg version of the pioneering album, It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back, by Public Enemy. Masia One now stands solid as one of Canada's finest emcees. Rooted in the culture of hip hop, Masia One started with graff, tagging and bringing her own Pulau flavour. An incredible performer, a b-girl with an old soul, this graffiti writer-cum-emcee moves any crowd, while leaving food for thought. Masia's dedication to hip hop shines through her tight connection with the culture’s communities of supporters - locally, nationally and worldwide. With countless live shows, media performances, and concert promo experiences, Masia One has steadily carved her niche in underground hip hop, and shown that she's a force to be reckoned with.
